Band Fees & Requirements

Marching Band

  • Course Fee ($50)

  • Marching Band Uniform Cleaning Fee ($15)
    Does Not Apply to Color Guard

  • Lock Deposit for Lockers ($5 — Cash Only)
    Not Required; Refundable Upon Return of Lock

  • Black Marching Shoes ($37)
    Required for Freshmen/New Students

  • Gloves ($3)
    Black Gloves for Woodwinds/Brass, White Gloves for Drum Majors; Not Required for Drumline (Battery or Front Ensemble)

  • Halftime Show Shirt ($12)
    Part of Marching Band Uniform to be Worn Under Bibbers

Color Guard

  • Course Fee ($45)

  • Uniform ($~75)
    We Make Every Effort to Keep This Expense Reasonable

Symphonic Band

  • Course Fee ($50)

  • Students will need to supply their own ALL BLACK concert attire (shoes, socks, dress pants, shirt, dress*)

  • Students will need to have supplies for their instrument

Jazz Band

  • Course fee ($25)

  • Students will need to have nice concert attire
    (dress pants/shirt, dress, nice shoes    **)

Honor Band

  • All-State Band audition fee ($25)

  • All-State Jazz Band audition fee ($50)

What is a PE Waiver and How Do I Get One?

A PE Waiver is documented evidence of physical activity that will WAIVE up to 1.0 credits of the necessary 2.0 credits of PE necessary to graduate from NHS. Please note that it is not earned CREDIT — meaning you don’t get an “A” for the PE Waiver — you simply forgo the need to earn those PE credits to graduate. 

Each semester you can waive up to .5 credits of PE. Participating fully in two (2) semesters of marching band will earn you 1.0 waived credits of PE. Remember, this only fulfills half of your PE requirement to graduate. You will still need to take (and pass!) two (2) semesters of PE at school to earn your diploma.

How do I earn it?

There are lots of different ways to earn a PE Waiver — participation in a school or club sport, participation in a dance group, or MARCHING BAND!

  1. You need to have documented evidence of AT LEAST 72 hours of physical activity during the course of a semester.

How Do I Get a Varsity Letter for Band?

Varsity Letters are an honor to earn and are not just handed out like candy; not everyone will earn one every year. However, with increased experience, playing ability, and leadership potential, earning a Varsity Letter will get progressively easier. In the end, this letter and any pins you earn to decorate it, will be a reminder of all the hard work you’ve put forth and a representation of your dedication to yourself, the NHS Band Program, and music.
